Zip World Forest, Betws y Coed

Zip World has been responsible for attracting thousands of thrill-seekers to North Wales with their innovative ideas.  The latest addition to their adventures is due to open at Easter.  It’s a high-speed toboggan run but not on snow. You’ll travel 1 kilometre on rails through forestry, flying through the trees at speed you won’t believe! It’s a bit like a roller coaster only much, much better!

Take the Snowdonia Challenge

Of all things to do in North Wales, if you want to test how mentally and physically resilient you are, this event will be for you! There is no other event like it in Britain.

You’ll be put through your paces with multiple daily, individual and team challenges. Based on European military training events, it is conducted in the Snowdonia National Park. Over a 3 day period from 28 June 2019, you will cover 100kilometres. You don’t have to participate in the full three days. There are options for shorter events.

15% of the proceeds will go to a community and charitable cause, so get involved!

St David’s Day in Towyn, North Wales

When is St David’s Day?

St David’s Day is celebrated every year on 1^st March.

Thinking about spending St David’s Day in North Wales? For excellent, affordable self-catering accommodation on caravan parks Towyn is a great place to look.  In the Abergele and Towyn regions, there are a wealth of holiday parks catering for all types of visitor.

In this area too there will be locals and tourists alike celebrating St David’s Day in a traditional way. So if you are not Welsh how can you fit in with what is going on without looking or feeling like a complete stranger?

1. Fly a Welsh flag somewhere on your caravan or pitch, car or bicycle.
2. Speak in the Welsh Language (this might be difficult if you don’t know it) but here are some useful phrases for St David’s Day that will endear you to the locals:
   1. Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus = Happy St David’s Day
   2. Pryd mae’r dawnsio gwerin yn dechrau? = What time does the folk dancing start?
   3. Hen Wlad fy Nhadau = Land of my fathers
   4. Pob dydd, pan dwi’n deffro, dwi’n dweud diolch i Dduw fy mod i’n Gymraeg = Every day I wake up and thank God I am Welsh
   5. Cymru am Byth = Wales forever
3. Eat some Bara Brith which is a delicious fruit loaf that tastes a lot like Hot Cross Buns but is much better.
4. Get a Welsh Passport Cover for your passport and flash it about without going too over the top.
5. Wear the Rugby shirt of a Welsh Team
6. Buy or make a daffodil buttonhole and wear it.

Equipped with all these things you can then set out on a journey walking in the footsteps of St David which could involve visiting any number of castles and cathedrals that bear his name. You will find some of these historic places by clicking here 

If you feel like singing you will not have to wander far on this day to hear one of many Welsh male voice choirs. If you join in or become emotional listening to them the locals will love you for it (unless your voice is terrible of course).

During the course of the day, you will see lots of people wandering around in traditional Welsh clothes and in particular children.  If you buy or make some Welsh cakes and offer the kids one, they will appreciate it.

Things to do in Abergele During the Summer Holidays

Its a bit early, but we thought we’d list some favourite things to do in Abergele during the summer.

Naturally, there is always plenty to do on site, but if you feel like venturing off have a look at these fantastic venues.

Manorafon Farm Park

A hit with both children and adults alike, Manorafon Farm Park is a great day out for all the family. Not only can you see a wonderful array of farm animals you can also learn how to look after them with hands-on experience.  Check out the ostriches, chickens, ducks and the donkeys, pigs, rabbits and pigs. Be prepared to take a rabbit home with you as your children are likely to want you to buy a bundle of cuteness.  If you are lucky you might also see sheepdog puppies!

This is a working, educational farm where anyone with an interest in farming can learn a great deal.

Tir Prince Raceway

Tir Prince Raceway has everything under control in terms of entertaining parents and kids. With a huge amusement arcade and funfair, the children will be worn out by the end of the day.  Lots of horse races to bet on if you feel like a gamble including harness and trap racing. The biggest market and car boot sale are open throughout the weekends so if you are so inclined, you can shop till you drop!

Adventure Trail

A marvellous fun day out for all the family, the Adventure Trail takes you through a series of over forty challenges. All are found in stunning woodland areas and include a maze, wall climbing, swings, balance beams and even a spider’s web among many other challenges.  It’s an ideal opportunity to spend some family time together.  In fine weather, why not take a picnic to enjoy al fresco?

Relax walking along the beach, eating in one of the many restaurants serving excellent local and international cuisine and generally taking in the sea air.  Part of the “adventure playground” area in North Wales, Abergele is quiet and relaxing but buzzing with activity if that’s what you are looking for.
