This impressive building is sometimes known as “The little flower of Jesus” named after the 19th Century French Saint Thérèse de Lisieux, whose name the Church takes. Built in 1934, designed by an Italian architect, the plan was for a Greek cross with surrounding apses and a dome.
This church could possibly date back to the Middle Ages and during a recent renovation and refurbishment, historic artefacts have been discovered. Among them were human remains, a clasp from a cloak and a stone with an inscription of a poem. It has been noted that the members of the Church are hoping to attract the television programme “Time Team” to visit and make further investigations.
Now listed as a Grade II building, the Victorian architecture comprises a gable bell tower, a nave and a north aisle consisting of four bays. The Norman Church of St Brynach is on the site of St Brynach’s 6th century “clas”, an important ecclesiastical centre. At the time when it is said that Dyfed had seven bishops, this was probably the seat of one. Except for the castellated tower, perilously undercut by the adjacent river Caman, most of the original Norman structure of the present building has been rebuilt. The church and churchyard are remarkable for the Celtic Cross and several inscribed stones. (Read more here..)
